A Client project that involves every aspect of CDM and uses Safety For Design’s experience in all areas of competency.
Friargate is a major regeneration development in a strategically vital part of Coventry, being undertaken by Friargate Coventry LLP in partnership with Coventry City Council.
Friargate Coventry LLP appointed Mark Dyche as CDM-C for this major, office-led regeneration scheme. Comprising 300,000 m2, the project will be the leading transformational project within the Coventry & Warwickshire region.
The first thing that had to be completed was the demolition of 20 acres of general buildings, shops, multi-level car park and offices, including a 16 floor office block, immediately adjacent to Coventry City Railway Station. This allowed the construction of a 11 storey office building for Coventry City Council, the first of many units on this scheme.
Mark used his experience to help keep the initial demolition phase on track, often helping with advice and support to the Principal Contractor; out of the normal CDM-C role and responsibility.
The office-led scheme is planned to be sustainable with efficient, low energy buildings around a vibrant new public realm. Key to the Masterplan will be a new pedestrian boulevard linking the station with the city centre.
Safety For Design has and continues to work with the award winning lead designer, architects and master planners, Allies Morrisons and the rest of the Clients team to provide health and safety guidance/coordination in the design process.
Hughes Demolition & Excavations Ltd worked with Safety For Design on an inner-city demolition project in the centre of Coventry. Mark was very professional and used his experience to help keep the project on track, often helping with advice and documentation out of the normal CDM-C role and responsibility.
Mark worked very well with the site team and his approach and demeanour was well received by site based personnel as well as the management team for Hughes Demolition. This approach helped us deliver a successful completion satisfying the Client and Local Authority.
