This project includes the remediation of the former petrochemical plant to provide land suitable for residential and commercial land use. This development is part of a £1.2 billion urban community strategy.
Safety For Design have extensive CDM-C experience involving demolition and remediation and the regeneration of Brownfield land projects nationwide.
We have worked closely with St Modwen PLC, the UK’s number one specialist company dealing with Brownfield land and regeneration for over 7 years.
In September 2008 Mark Dyche wrote the Health & Safety Strategy, which formed part of the bid, for the selection process involving former site owner BP along with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, The Princes Foundation and the Welsh Assembly Government, St. Modwen purchased the former BP Llandarcy Oil refinery site in May 2008.
The project included the demolition of the former bitumen plant and remaining buildings including the former bathhouse complex, BP administration buildings and other site structures.
The site provides many environmental and engineering challenges and is regarded as one of the largest schemes of its kind in the UK. Expected to take 25 years to complete, this major project will provide over 4,000 homes and 500,000 square feet of commercial development space, not to mention schools, parks and sports facilities.
The project includes a joint venture scheme with national house builder Persimmon Homes. As an offshoot Safety For Design have worked directly for Persimmon Homes providing CDM-C services for the infrastructure, show homes and foundations aspects of their works. This enabled Persimmon Homes construction teams to start their facet of work on a ‘ready to construct’ site.
Prosurv Consult together with St Modwen and Atkins picked up the award for ‘Best Regeneration Involving Brownfield’ for their ongoing involvement at Coed Darcy, South Wales.
Mark Dyche has worked with Prosurv Consult on this project since 2008, providing professional CDM Co-ordinator guidance and support to the construction design and management aspects of Prosurv’s multi-disciplinary construction consultancy.
