Safety For Design – Providing the Complete Package!
The completion of the project was put in major doubt when the original Principal Contractor, Ashcroft Construction, went into administrative receivership. St. Modwen took over direct responsibility for the project, and Mark Dyche was appointed as the CDM-C to ensure the development of health and safety throughout the project; it was completed in line with the original requirements.
Mark also provided the health and safety support and advisor role for the site management and site operations. This included compiling the health and safety management systems, documentation and arrangements to complete the project in a safe manner. There were no accidents subject to RIDDOR and the HSE were invited to, and used the project as a learning project for their new inspectors.
The £33-million Rugby centre opened in 2010 with specialist facilities including a 150-seater multi-purpose hall, 350 square metre library, 1,000 square metres of engineering space, 300 square metres of hair and beauty space, 1,050 square metres of construction training facilities, 850 square metres of catering training areas with restaurant and bar, conferencing and business facilities, performance and dance facilities, purpose-built art, design and craft workshops.
